I earned my Facebook Blueprint certification a few weeks ago.
Facebook Blueprint was launched in 2015, and the certification followed in 2016, but the process was changed recently. Since it’s a relatively new certification, I couldn’t find much information about it online, so I will share a bit about my experience.
First off, Facebook Blueprint and Facebook Blueprint certification are two different things. Facebook Blueprint is the free e-learning platform that provides information about Facebook and Instagram advertising. Advertisers can use it as a helpful guide to navigate Facebook Ads and understand the different campaign and ad types.
The Facebook Blueprint Certification is a paid credential that demonstrates your skill as a digital marketer. In the previous version, examinees were required to pass two separate exams. The first one was a basic core competencies exam, and the second was a specialized exam of the examinee’s choice - planning or buying professional. There is a lot of outdated information online describing this old process, but the process was recently updated.
Now, there are more exams to choose from, and only one exam is required. The basic core competencies exam was removed.
Below is the list of available certifications.
【100-101 Facebook Certified Digital Marketing Associate】Associate level exam covering foundational advertising concepts on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.

These exams have no prerequisites. The exams are generally in order of difficulty, but each one tests a different skill set. I took【400-101 Facebook Certified Media Planning Professional】
After passing【500-101 Facebook Certified Marketing Developer】you may also take the two advanced exams below.
【510-101 Facebook Certified Advanced Marketing Developer】This certification measures competency in the technical implementation of advanced marketing solutions. The certification consists of two required parts: a multiple choice exam and a coding assessment.
【520-101 Facebook Certified Advertising API Developer】This certification measures competency configuring and troubleshooting Marketing API integrations. The certification consists of two required parts: a multiple choice exam and a coding assessment.
Each exam costs between $99 to $150 USD depending on the level of certification. If you fail, you'll need to pay the full fee again to retake the exam.
I've seen Facebook Blueprint training courses advertised online, but I did not use them, and in hindsight self-study was enough because I already had hands-on work experience managing multiple Facebook Ad accounts. Outside of that, the total time that I prepared was about 5-10 hours. Most of the time was spent becoming familiar with campaign types that I hadn't used recently, and memorizing the rules for different campaigns, because obviously you can't look things up during the exam as you would in a real world situation.
In the Facebook Blueprint platform, there are downloadable study guides for each certification, with about 10-15 practice questions at the end. There is also an online practice test of about 30 questions for each certification. Of course you should mainly use the study guide and practice test for the exam that you are going to take, but I would also recommend checking the material for other exams.
I registered online through a service called Pearson VUE, and I took the exam remotely from home. There were options to select the time slot and preferred language for your exam. When you register, you can test your computer and internet, and confirm that the exam software runs smoothly on your computer.
At the time of writing, it is unclear whether offline test centers are open, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
For this part, I'll just explain my experience taking the exam online. You can check in up to 30 minutes before the exam start time. I checked in about 5 minutes before and had no issues. For the check in process, I had my government ID and phone nearby to verify my identity.
You might have to wait a few minutes if there are other exam takers in que, but in a few minutes you should get connected with an online proctor, and then you can start the exam. I had also taken the Marketo Engage Business Practitioner test online a few months ago, so the process was similar.
The allotted time depends on which exam you are taking, but it's generally around 1-2 hours for 50-75 multiple choice questions. If your exam has a coding part, you'll get an additional 1-2 hours for that.
Facebook uses a scaled scoring system that ranges from 300-1000, and scores above 700 are passing. Since it's online multiple choice, you don't need to wait long to find out your results.
I received my result and certificate via email within 24 hours. Once you are Facebook certified, you can also join the Facebook Blueprint Certified Professionals group to connect with other experts and knowledge sharing.
